Ukraine is a country with many rich traditions using color, symbol, and geometric design to signify meaning. In April, join us in person or online to learn about the history and practice of creating pysanky, traditional Ukrainian decorated eggs. The eggs are “written” using a beeswax-resist method and multiple layers of colored dyes. In this workshop, participants will be able to create their own pysanka under the direction of artist Sofia Padkowsky, apprentice to pysanky master artist Olga Kobryn.
In-person attendance will be extremely limited, and all necessary materials will be provided. Participants will leave with a handcrafted pysanka of their own creation. To express your interest in attending in-person, please email Sally.VandeWater@co.middlesex.nj.us.
To participate from home, consider purchasing a pysanky supply kit at https://www.ukrainiangiftshop.com/ (any of the kits are appropriate, Kit #2 is a good beginner kit). Online registrants will receive an electronic packet of handouts in advance of the workshop. Please register for the online program here: https://tinyurl.com/Pysanky2022
