The North Brunswick Train Station will bring a new train stop to the County along the Northeast Corridor, providing numerous benefits, including substantial relief to one of the State’s busiest rail lines, reducing traffic along Route 1 – a major thoroughfare – and attracting new revenue to the region.

History of the Project

The North Brunswick Train Station Project was proposed as far back as 15 years ago. After planning and discussion continued on the project, the New Jersey State Legislature allocated $50 million for the North Brunswick Train Station Project through the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund (NJTTF) in 2017. With funding in place, the North Brunswick Train Station Project moved forward.

Late 2019

The Middlesex County Improvement Authority (MCIA) was tasked with managing the project, a first-of-its-kind partnership between NJ TRANSIT and a county. In 2020, the MCIA officially entered into this partnership with NJ TRANSIT through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) which permits the MCIA to serve as the project manager overseeing the design and construction of the project. Under this agreement, the MCIA will coordinate input from NJ TRANSIT, AMTRAK, New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), the North Brunswick Township developer, and Middlesex County.

October 2020

NJ TRANSIT and the MCIA approved the initial funding agreement for the North Brunswick Train Station Project. Approval of the initial funding agreement enabled the MCIA to access the project funding, begin active management of the station project, and the procure a design and engineering firm.

October 2021

A contract with WSP USA was executed for the design and engineering of the North Brunswick Train Station Project. Conceptual design and preliminary engineering continue to proceed on schedule.

November 2021

Official Notice to Proceed provided to WSP. The contract officially began.

January 2022
