This course is designed to educate first responders of the potential dangers that live electric lines present when they are responding to various types of emergency calls. Utilizing a specialized self-contained electric safety trailer, trained JCP&L instructors depict some of the most common causes of power outages, such as animals contacting equipment or tree branches falling on lines, as well as the hazards first responders face when approaching vehicles that may be in contact with live wires. Instructors simulate contact between objects and the model’s 7200-volt power lines, causing bright and startling electrical arcs that demonstrate the dangerous power of electricity.
Note: This course is only open to State, County or Municipal agencies that respond to municipalities that are serviced by JCP&L as follows: Cranbury, East Brunswick, Helmetta, Jamesburg, Monroe, Old Bridge, Sayreville, South Amboy, South Brunswick, and Spotswood.
