County Administration, under the direction of the County Administrator, carries out the duties and responsibilities required to provide the programs and services set forth by the Board of County Commissioners. The County Administrator is an appointed official who reports directly to the Board of County Commissioners on policy matters (i.e., all matters affecting the citizens of Middlesex County). The Administrator acts as the County's chief executive and administrative officer on all matters involving County Government and has administrative responsibilities for County matters. In addition, County Administration includes the offices of Business Engagement; Clerk of the Board; Communications; County Counsel; Human Resources; Information Technology; Marketing; and, Public and Government Affairs.
Also, there are six departments and additional boards, bodies and commissions that carry out the affairs of the County and report to the County Administrator. The six departments are Business Innovations, Education and Opportunity; Community Services; Finance; Infrastructure Management; Public Safety and Health; and, Transportation.
The County Administrator also oversees the preparation of the County's annual operating and capital budgets, and may perform other executive and administrative duties as are necessary to ensure the effective functioning of County operations and the efficient use of County resources.
Offices
Business Engagement
The Office of Business Engagement is the key connector and partner for market-leading businesses, entrepreneurs, non-profits, family-owned businesses, and small businesses seeking to relocate, expand, or start-up in Middlesex County.
Clerk of the Board
The Clerk of the Board shall be the official depository and custodian of all official documents for the County. The Clerk shall keep and maintain the agenda for all meetings, a record of the official minutes, and related correspondence for the Board.
Communications
The Office of Communications is the principal point of contact for strategic communication to County external stakeholders, including the media, residents, businesses, municipalities, and partners, and internal stakeholders inclusive of employees and the Board of County Commissioners.
County Counsel
County Counsel has the power, duty and responsibility of managing all legal matters for the County and serves as legal advisor to all Departments of the County, with the exception of the Planning Board.
Human Resources
The Office of Human Resources acts as the human resource department for Middlesex County employees and provides County employees with various programs.
Information Technology
The Office of Information Technology has strived to provide County employees with the most recent and up to date technology, to help in all aspects of County Government functions.
Marketing
The Office of Marketing promotes Middlesex County to existing residents and businesses, while simultaneously attracting new residents and businesses to the County.
Public and Government Affairs
The Office of Public and Government Affairs serves as an intergovernmental liaison between the Board of County Commissioners and Federal, State, and Local Legislatures and Governments to the benefit of all Middlesex County residents. The Office takes a lead role in advocating for key issues and policies on behalf of the County. The Office also coordinates relationships between the County and organizations, media, business groups, partnership organizations, and the public.
