Campaign to End Stigma

With the recent increase in prevalence of mental health and substance use disorders, now is a critical time as any, to discuss stigma. Stigma surrounds the conversation on mental health and substance use disorders which may discourage individuals to seek appropriate services and treatment.

Each of us can play a role in eliminating stigma and supporting those who are affected by these conditions. However, addressing stigma takes a community wide, collaborative approach.

Why a Stigma Campaign?

Middlesex County recognizes the stigma associated with mental health and substance use disorder, and acknowledges that many people remain unserved in part, because of the stigma. We are calling attention to this issue so we can bring it out of the shadows and encourage people to seek treatment and support.  We acknowledge that greater public awareness about these conditions can change negative attitudes and behaviors.

We seek to promote a message of hope and the belief that healing and recovery are attainable. We choose to believe in and celebrate strength and resilience, rather than focus on illness and disability.

We ask you to join us in this campaign to eliminate stigma in Middlesex County, and to stand with those impacted by mental health and substance use disorder.

If you would like to express your support for this great cause, please read the “Campaign to End Stigma” statement below and check the box, pledging to help spread the word within your own community.

Thank you for your support.  For additional questions about the Campaign to End Stigma, please email: elisabeth.marchese@co.middlesex.nj.us or charoulla.georgiou@co.middlesex.nj.us
