It’s the 1700s….

Raritan Landing is a bustling port on the Raritan River. The community is dense with businesses and rich with a variety of trades and skills.

Here, imports arrive from Europe and the Caribbean, while goods and produce from New Jersey are loaded on ships for export…

Fast forward to the early nineteenth century… Raritan Landing, heavily impacted by the Revolutionary War, has all but disappeared. When trade shifts to New Brunswick, killing the economy of Raritan Landing in the early nineteenth century, the community slowly dies out.

remnants of the community lie buried in Johnson Park. Since the 1970s, a number of major archaeological excavations have uncovered hundreds of thousands of artifacts and building foundations which have helped to tell the story of the community to visitors and historians.

The site is listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places.
