Office of Planning
The Office of Planning's primary responsibility is to prepare a comprehensive development plan for the County and to monitor its implementation. This includes preparing reports of findings and facts for presentation and action by the Planning Board and the Board of County Commissioners. The Planning Board supports advisory committees to assist in the decision-making process. These committees relate to a specific function of the Planning Board.

Municipal Filing of Documents with the County Planning Board
Municipalities are required to submit new, revised, and amended zoning ordinances and development regulations to the County Planning Board per N.J.S.A. 40:55D-16. Any adopted development regulation or zoning ordinance does not go into effect until this public notice requirement is accomplished.
Public notice must also be served to the County Planning Board for the adoption, revision, or amendment of the municipal master plan per N.J.S.A. 40:55D-13(3). The municipal planning board must provide:
Notice by personal service or certified mail to the county planning board of (a) all hearings on the adoption, revision or amendment of the municipal master plan at least 10 days prior to the date of the hearing; such notice shall include a copy of any such proposed master plan, or any revision or amendment thereto; and (b) the adoption, revision or amendment of the master plan not more than 30 days after the date of such adoption, revision or amendment; such notice shall include a copy of the master plan or revision or amendment thereto.
