Household Hazardous Waste

2022 Events

All events run from 8 am - 2 pm. Events are held rain or shine.

Residents must keep their vehicle windows closed and stay in their vehicles at all times. Please have your materials in your trunk, cargo area or truck bed, easily accessible to our staff, who will remove it from your vehicle.

  • Saturday, October 15: Middlesex County Highways, 97 Apple Orchard Lane, North Brunswick 08902

This service is provided for Middlesex County residents only, free of charge.

Residential material and residential license plates only – no commercial vehicles.

Acceptable Items

Adhesives, Aerosol Cans, Antifreeze, Brake Fluid, Car Batteries, Cleaners, Drain Cleaners, Fire Extinguishers, Flares (road only), Fluorescent Bulbs (no broken bulbs), Gasoline, Gas/Oil Mix, Kerosene, Lighter Fluid, Mercury, Motor Oil/Filters, Paints (Latex/Oil), Paint Thinner, Pesticides/Herbicides, Photographic Chemicals, Pool Chemicals, Propane Tanks, Stains/Varnishes, Thermometers, Thermostats.

Rechargeable & Button Cell Batteries (individually bag each battery or tape each terminal end prior to transport). Alkaline batteries can be disposed of in regular trash.

Asbestos containing materials: call to pre-register, must be double bagged.

Non-acceptable Items

Appliances/Furniture, Computers, Electronics, Empty Containers, Explosives and Munitions, Infectious/Medical Waste, Printers, Smoke Detectors, Televisions, Tires.

No containers over 10 gallons.

Please help us feed Middlesex County residents in need: Bring a non-perishable food item when you come to one of our household hazardous waste events. Donated items will be delivered to REPLENISH, the Middlesex County foodbank.

Paper Shredding

Residents must keep their vehicle windows closed and stay in their vehicles at all times. Please have your materials in your trunk, cargo area or truck bed, easily accessible to our staff, who will remove it from your vehicle.

Important Guidelines

Following the rules below will assist us in getting you through the event as quickly as possible.

  • No Plastic Bags. Use a box, crate or other sturdy container – we will give it back to you.
  • Limit of 5 file boxes or 100 pounds per car.
  • Paper must be in a liftable, manageable container. If it is hard for you to bring it to your car, it is too heavy!

Note: No need to remove paper clips or staples.

Do Not Bring: Plastic binders/sheet protectors, newspapers, magazines, hardcover books, junk mail, photos, x-rays, CDs, shredded paper or garbage.

Residential personal paper only - no business (home-based or other) paper.

Loads containing unacceptable items will be rejected.
