Sheriff's Civilian Academy - 8 WEEK COURSE

The Sheriff’s Office will hold an 8-week-long Sheriff’s Civilian Academy for residents of Middlesex County in the Spring of 2023. 

The Sheriff’s Civilian Academy is designed to educate Middlesex County residents on the various functions and duties of the Sheriff’s Office.

Applications are being accepted now for the program, which will be held at the Middlesex County Fire Academy located in Sayreville.

The first session is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 20th 2023. Classes will continue weekly on Thursdays. One Saturday class will be held. The program culminates with a graduation ceremony scheduled for Thursday June 15th  2023.
Each session will highlight functions of the Sheriff’s Office including: Defensive Tactics, K-9, Transportation, Fingerprinting, DARE, Courts, Civil Process and Foreclosures among others. Participants also will tour the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office and the Main Courthouse located in New Brunswick.

Applications are due no later than March. 1st 2023. The application will be used to determine suitability for the program. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, reside within the County of Middlesex, have no felony convictions, not be wanted for any crime, and submit to a limited background check.

Undersheriff David Q. Irizarry

David Q. Irizarry is the Undersheriff of the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office. He was sworn in on February 5, 2024.

Undersheriff Irizarry’s journey in law enforcement began in 1990 as a Middlesex County sheriff’s officer, before he was sworn in as a patrolman with the Metuchen Borough Police Department in 1992. During his tenure at Metuchen Borough Police Department, Irizarry demonstrated exceptional leadership, ascending through the ranks to detective (2001), detective sergeant (2006), lieutenant (2008), and captain (2011), before being named chief of police in 2015. He was the first Hispanic police chief in Metuchen.

Undersheriff Irizarry led the Metuchen Borough Police Department until his retirement from the department in June 2022. However, his dedication to public service remained unwavering, and he embraced the role of coordinator of emergency planning for New Brunswick Public Schools until his return to the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office in February 2024.

In 2010, Undersheriff Irizarry graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. His training and extensive experience from more than three decades in law enforcement make him a vital asset in ensuring the safety and security of Middlesex County residents.

Born and raised in Edison, Undersheriff Irizarry lives in South Plainfield with his wife and two children, both of whom are college students.

Sheriff officer 2024

Middlesex County Sheriff Mildred S. Scott proudly swore in 5 new Sheriff’s Officers on January 26, 2024.  All graduated from the Mercer County Police Academy class 30-23 after weeks of training that began on September 5, 2023.

Jeremy Peguero from New Brunswick, NJ graduated from Franklin High School and is currently a Staff Sergeant for the National Guard.

Aleksandr Lempert from Woodbridge, NJ graduated from Tottenville Highschool in Staten Island and went to the College of Staten Island.  Lempert previously served as an instructor for TSA and enjoys photography. Lempert was elected from his fellow recruits to be the Mercer County Police Academy Class Speaker.

Michael Colon from North Brunswick, NJ graduated from Bound Brook High School.  Colon previously employed as a State Correctional Officer.

Raekown Ross from Piscataway, NJ graduated from Edison High School.  After Highschool Ross went to Npower IT School.  Ross received the award for sharpshooter at Mercer County Police Academy.

Hector Bueso-Martinez from Parlin, NJ graduated from Stockton University with a degree in Criminology.  Bueso-Martinez served a 12-month combat deployment in Afghanistan and was previously employed with the Department of Defense.  Bueso- Martinez is married and has two daughters.

Sheriff new officers 2023

 

Middlesex County Sheriff Mildred S. Scott proudly swore in 13 new Sheriff’s Officers on January 27, 2023.  All 13 newly sworn officers hail from various towns and backgrounds and all graduated from the Mercer County Police Academy Class 26-21 after weeks of training that began on August 29, 2022.

Henderson Mautes, 25, from South River, NJ graduated from Sayreville War Memorial High School. Mautes worked in Health Services in administration before joining the Sheriff’s office. An active basketball player, Mautes served as a captain of his school team lading them to victory. He continues to pursue his love for basketball game via coaching of varsity and junior varsity team as a coach.

Tristan Miranda, 22, from Woodbridge graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a degree in Criminology. Miranda won many academic accolades from his university and different state offices. He is also an athlete with a strong performance record in football and track. He continued to play football in college and is involved in the community as a voluntary football coach. Miranda was selected as the PT award winner in his graduating class from Mercer County Police Academy for his outstanding performance.

Terrance Fox, married with 2 kids, is from Piscataway and graduated from university of New Hampshire on a football scholarship. He tried out for Baltimore Ravens before moving back to New Jersey. He continues to pursue his love of sports by coaching and training young athletes.
