Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Dennis McFadden of the Carteret Police Department announced today that a Carteret man has been charged in connection with the homicide of Juanita Quinones, 77, of Carteret.
Yesterday, May 1, 2023, at approximately 5:29 P.M., authorities received a 911 call reporting that an individual was seen near Taylor Avenue, who appeared to be covered in blood. Carteret Police Department responded to the area of Taylor Avenue. Upon their arrival, officers located Cyril Lloyd, 26, of Carteret. Lloyd was transported back to his home. When authorities entered the residence they discovered the victim, his grandmother, Juanita Quinones, 77, of Carteret. Quinones was unresponsive and appeared to have multiple head wounds. Quinones was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Thereafter, Lloyd was arrested without incident and charged with firstdegree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
Lloyd presently is lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center pending a pre-trial detention hearing in Superior Court.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Lloyd are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
