County Correctional Police Officers

The Middlesex County Correctional Police Officer assumes various professional responsibilities which include but is not limited to ensuring the custody, safety, and care of incarcerated individuals lodged in our County correctional facility.  Our Correctional Police Officers have the authority to exercise full police powers and acts as peace officers for the detection, apprehension, arrest, and conviction of offenders in violation of NJ state law.

Appointments may be made to positions requiring bilingual skills.

Salary & Benefits:

Starting salary is at $41,993, you can earn up to $119,171.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Appointees must possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey.
  • Appointees may be required to possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated. The responsibility for ensuring that employees possess the required motor vehicle license, commensurate with the class and type of vehicles they operate, rests with the Appointing Authority.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States.

    Special Qualifications:

  • Appointees will be required to complete the PTC pre-admission physical fitness assessment at an Academy selected by the Department as well as meet the requirements to possess and maintain an NJ Police Training Commission License.
  • Appointees must successfully complete a police training course approved by the New Jersey Police Training Commission. Such training includes the successful attainment of a satisfactory level of proficiency in the use of firearms.

  • Appointees will be required to qualify/requalify in the use of firearms by State of New Jersey regulatory requirements.

  • Appointees to positions in SWAT, SORT, or related units must additionally qualify quarterly in the use of all weapons used by the unit.

Medical Examination:

Appointees will be required to pass a thorough medical and psychological examination administered by the appointing authority. Any medical, psychological or physical condition or defect which would prevent efficient performance of the duties of the position, cause the appointee to be a hazard to self or others, or become aggravated as a result of the performance of these duties, will be cause for rejection. Appointees will be required to undergo a psychiatric examination. Failure to demonstrate sufficient capacity to perform duties of this position may be cause for rejection.
