Environmental Health Division

Who We Are

The State of New Jersey provides environmental health services through county health departments that enforce New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) regulations. The Middlesex County Environmental Health Division (MCEHD) is the lead agency for the municipalities in the County that contract for environmental health services. These services include monitoring and enforcement of environmental health standards to control air pollution, solid waste, noise, and water pollution to protect the public from harmful substances and other environmental threats. As part of the Water Program, MCEHD inspects and certifies septic systems in contracting towns. The MCEHD provides these services along with geographical information systems that are utilized in each program on a County-wide basis. The Environmental Health Division’s duties and responsibilities are enumerated in the County Environmental Health Act (CEHA).
