The Internal Affairs (IA)/Professional Responsibility Unit focuses on the investigation of criminal misconduct committed by law enforcement within Middlesex County, including, but not limited to, allegations of the use of excessive force.
While the unit typically receives referrals from municipal police departments, its members also respond directly to citizen complaints.
In addition, the unit provides oversight of internal affairs investigations conducted by internal affairs officers of local police departments within the county.
