Community Awareness
The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office Community Awareness Unit provides numerous crime prevention and community programs free of charge to the residents and businesses of Middlesex County. Some of these programs include Fingerprints on File for school-age children, Senior Scams and Fraud Prevention, Internet Safety and Cyber bullying, Fatal Vision/ Drunk Driving education, Senior Citizen Medical Identification Program, Stranger Danger Program, Drug lectures, Distracted Driver Awareness, and Child Passenger Safety / Car seat Installation just to name a few.
Transportation Safety
Officers are Certified CPS Technicians who provide public with free safety checks for their vehicle car seats and installation, also provide informative lectures on vehicle safety, pedestrian safety, bicycle safety, scooter and skateboard safety
Project Lifesaver
Tracking device for Senior Citizen with Alzheimer’s or dementia and children with autism who wander away from home. Bracelet transmitter sends out radio signal that can be picked up from responder unit that Sheriff’s officer are trained on.
Scams and frauds
Officers will lecture on the characteristics of scams, frauds, and cons along with how to identify and avoid them. They will teach you what to look out for and the clues that crooks leave lying around in social and conventional media, everyday communications, or at your doorstep to different social organizations and senior centers
Civilian Academy
An eight week program that is designed to educate residents and local citizens on the various functions and duties of the Sheriff’s office. The Academy is made up of Citizens of Middlesex County ranging in age from 18 to 80
Explorer Program
The Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Exploring Program gives students, ages 14-20, an in depth look at careers in law enforcement, by having them work and train with members of the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office. We currently have 45 explorers who attend the program regularly.
D.A.R.E./Keeping it Real
10 week (30-45 min) K-12 comprehensive teaching program which addresses drugs, violence, bullying, internet safety, and other high risk circumstances that today are too often a part of a students’ lives
Coloring Book Contest
Coloring books used to showcase the artistic talents of our youth, in the form of three different books, Bike Safety, Personal Safety, and a Safety Calendar. Contest is run every two years, and is open to all in county fourth graders,
Read Across America
Reading Dr. Seuss books to children in a classroom setting to promote literacy across the county
Situational Awareness/Defensive Tactics/Female Safety
Officers speak specifically to women’s groups about how to be safer in their daily lives
Distracted Driving/Texting while Driving/Graduated Driver License
Educating young/new drivers about distractions while driving, specifically phone, radio, or passengers in the vehicle to High School Juniors and Seniors throughout the school year.
