The primary mission is to assure that the members of the Sheriff’s Office meet the highest standards of integrity and ethical performance.
The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to providing the best possible police service to the citizens it serves. Officers are carefully selected and receive the best possible training to help them perform their duties in a fair, honest, impartial, and professional manner. Your assistance helps the Sheriff’s Office maintain the integrity of the organization. If you feel strongly about the conduct of an officer, positively or negatively, please let us know.

How to Commend an Officer
Recognition for a job well done is important. Officers and civilian employees of the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office are no exception. If an officer or other member of the Sheriff’s Office renders a service that you feel is worthy of a commendation, we would like to hear about it.
To commend a Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office employee you may:
- Telephone the Internal Affairs Division by calling: 732-745-3271 ext., 4173, 4174 or 3375.
- Telephone the members supervisor directly.
- Write to the Internal Affairs Supervisor at: 701 Livingston Ave, New Brunswick, New Jersey 08901.
- Please include as much of the following information as you can remember:
- Date, time, and location of the incident
- Name(s) and badge number(s) of the member(s) involved.
- Circumstances of the incident.
The employee and his/her supervisor will be notified of the commendation. A copy will also be included in the employee’s personnel file.
How to File a Complaint
Providing police services can often be a very difficult and complex job. The Sheriff’s Office recognizes that mistakes may be made and the actions of our officers may fall short of expectations. The Sheriff’s Office has established rules and regulations and standard operating procedures governing the professional and personal conduct of employees and acceptable work performance standards. These guidelines are designed to protect the well-being and the rights of all citizens and employees. The Internal Affairs Division will thoroughly investigate all reports of misconduct by officers regardless of the source. Anyone who files a complaint against an officer will be treated with courtesy and respect.
In order to protect the rights of all persons and ensure that all employees abide by all laws and regulations, the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office will maintain an Internal Affairs Unit that is consistent with the Policies and Procedures set forth by the New Jersey State Attorney General’s Office.
How to submit completed forms:
Complaint forms are currently available in 11 languages. After filling out the form, they can be submitted via online submission, E-Mail, Fax, USPS or hand deliver the document to the facility directly.

ONLINE SUBMISSION
Currently, only the English version of the online form contains fields that can be filled out using Adobe Acrobat. After filling out the form, click on the “Submit Form” button at the top of the document and a pop-up window will appear for you to select your preferred e-mail software (ex. Outlook).
Make your selection and a new e-mail window will pop-up, out containing the filled-out PDF document as an attachment, and the pre-addressed e-mail address for the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Unit It should be noted that any supporting digital evidence or files, please attach it to the e-mail.
HARD COPY SUBMISSION
