Pesticide Inspection Program

Spraying Pesticide

The Middlesex County Environmental Health Division (MCEHD) participates in the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Pesticide Inspection Program. Pesticide inspections are done at multifamily residences, retail stores, schools, and landscaper applications. Inspections are conducted of landscapers who are using herbicides and pesticides on residential or commercial properties to ensure that they are licensed and properly applying approved substances.

Multiple family residences, such as apartment complexes, are inspected to ensure that pesticide applications are conducted by licensed contractors. Products must be properly stored onsite, and residents notified of applications. Retail stores are inspected to ensure that no unregistered pesticide products are being sold at these facilities. If necessary, the MCEHD will issue a Notice of Violation and penalties to unlicensed applicators or for the improper application of pesticide products.

School inspections provide information regarding the proper storage and use of pesticides at these facilities. Inspections determine whether the facility has properly implemented the required New Jersey School Integrated Pest Management Program (IPM).
