All new well drillings and old well decommissioning’s must be done by a licensed well driller certified by the NJDEP. All work must be witnessed by an inspector. Well drillers must contact the Water Pollution Program at least 48 hours in advance to schedule an inspection. New wells are to be tested according to the NJDEP Private Well Testing Act, and the results are to be submitted to MCEHD. All documents are then reviewed, and a certificate of compliance is issued for all new well installations.

All public transient non-community and public non-transient non-community water systems are inspected by our department to ensure that NJDEP regulations are followed. MCEHD has principal responsibility to administer the programs and activities of the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act and the New Jersey Safe Drinking Water Act to ensure safe drinking water for both the citizens of New Jersey and its visitors. They are required to adhere to the NJDEP Bureau of Safe Drinking Water (NJDEP –BSDW) regulations. These systems are required to follow specific water sampling schedules and submit the results to the NJDEP BSDW. A zero-tolerance policy allows MCEHD to issue Notice of Violations and Penalty Assessments for systems not in compliance.
